On December 24th, after six years of construction, the Padma Bridge Railway Link Project, built by a Chinese enterprise, was officially opened to traffic across its entire length. This project represents the largest railway initiative in Bangladesh, spanning 170 kilometers and connecting the capital Dhaka with Jessore in the southwest. Designed for a speed of 120 kilometers per hour, it accommodates both passenger and freight traffic.
This "road of dreams" connects over 20 districts in southern Bangladesh with Dhaka, significantly reducing the travel time from Dhaka to Jessore to less than two hours. It serves as a major boost to Bangladesh's transportation and economic development. The railway is expected to directly benefit 80 million people and contribute to a 1.5 percentage point increase in economic growth. This project not only facilitates domestic transportation in Bangladesh but also has a positive impact on economic cooperation between the two countries.
